I took a pledge! My nephew and I and are both registered at AkoMismo.org and we both took pledges… well, I still have only one until now but it’s better than nothing, right? And my pledge is “Ako mismo ipagmamalaki ko ang aking pagiging  Pilipino” (I, myself, will be proud to be a Filipino). And last Friday, my nephew and I went to this…

It actually felt nice to have participated in an event that really make sense, know what I mean? It’s just sad because when you look at the commitment wall online, lots of people are posting pledges which obviously were menat to ridicule. Hay… Pinoy nga naman.

I was even planning to go to Eastwood for the Boto Mo, iPatrol Mo: Ako ang Simula event. But I didn’t want to drag my nephew there anymore since he’s not yet a voter. Besides, I only had a couple hours of sleep the night before so I just reserved my energy for the dog tag day event.

Jodi Picoult's My Sister's KeeperI’m just starting to read and I haven’t read that many books in my llife. Anyway, I’m not familiar with Jodi Picoult and her works until someone form one of my scrap teams mentioned that her book My Sister’s Keeper was currently adapted into film. It has an interesting plot so I’ve decided to get a copy of the audiobook.

I’ve read reviews about the book and most were disappointed with the ending. I also didn’t like how the story turned out but I already knew the ending before I started listening to the audiobook. But I’m not going to say anything here so as not to spoil it for those who haven’t read it yet. Anyway, the book was pretty interesting although it got a little boring somewhere in the middle, especially the part about the story between the two characters Julia Romano and Campbell Alexander. I just don’t see how their story connects to the plot. But I did find Campbell’s snips about his dog really funny. Anyway, it is a sad story with a heartbreaking ending and yeah, I did cry because I’m shallow like that.

Here’s a short synopsis from Jodi Picoult’s site:

Anna is not sick, but she might as well be. By age thirteen, she has undergone countless surgeries, transfusions, and shots so that her older sister, Kate, can somehow fight the leukemia that has plagued her since childhood. The product of preimplantation genetic diagnosis, Anna was conceived as a bone marrow match for Kate - a life and a role that she has never questioned… until now. Like most teenagers, Anna is beginning to question who she truly is. But unlike most teenagers, she has always been defined in terms of her sister - and so Anna makes a decision that for most would be unthinkable… a decision that will tear her family apart and have perhaps fatal consequences for the sister she loves. My Sister’s Keeper examines what it means to be a good parent, a good sister, a good person. Is it morally correct to do whatever it takes to save a child’s life… even if that means infringing upon the rights of another? Is it worth trying to discover who you really are, if that quest makes you like yourself less?

I can’t wait to see the movie! The mother was played by Cameron Diaz and the daughters were played by Sofia Vassilieva and Abigail Breslin. I’ve read somewhere that Dakota and Elle Fanning were originally set to play the sisters but Dakota changed her mind when she found out she would have to shave her head to play the leukemia-suffering character of Kate and Elle dropped out along with her sister. There are also rumors that they changed the ending from the book so this should be interesting. Below is one of the trailers… the song made me cry when I watched this.

I know I’d been planning cleaning my room forever. I started to already and is now done with the cabinets. This is going to be long because I want to be thorough. :) I really want to clean and organize every corner so I’m taking my time. I don’t to hurry and just make my room “look” tidy, I want it to be it.

Cleaning and organizing my cabinets was an adventure. Haha! I removed old clothes I wasn’t using anymore, found old clothes that I’d been looking for, found stuff that I’d already forgotten about, and found plenty of clothes that I still haven’t worn. And I mean plenty! I got rid of old bags too. I also asked my mom to wash some of my white clothes that I seldom use. They are turning yellow and I’m going to put them in plastics after they’d been cleaned.

And I also found my hats and bonnets. The kids saw it and played with them. I took some photos of them wearing the bonnets.

Bonnets

Cute, aren’t they? :D Siempre, love your own! Haha! And since I have a few hats and seldom use them, I thought I’d show them off by doing the daily mugshot. I’ll be adding the widget on the sidebar.

It’s time to bring out those flashlights and candles and vote Earth for Earth Hour 2009. :) Let us help fight global warming by switching of lights for an hour, on Saturday, March 28, 2009, 8:30PM local time, wherever you live on planet earth. Let us sacrifice a little for our own good. One hour isn’t that long.

Switching off your lights is a vote for Earth, or leaving them on is a vote for global warming. VOTE EARTH by simply switching off your lights for one hour, and join the world for Earth Hour.

Okay, I know I haven’t been good with my goals but I’m working on it, promise. Haha! Anyway, I’m adding another one to my list… to learn how to sew. Shoe bags gave me the idea. Haha! I wanted to buy shoe bags but either I don’t like or it’s too expensive. So, I thought I’d make my own. I know the how to do basic stitches but I don’t know how to use a sewing machine. I’m actually scared I’d saw my fingers to the fabric. Haha! I’m going to ask my sister to teach me some time soon. Wish me luck! :)

I’m actually pretty excited, not just because of the shoe bags but I have a lot of crafty stuff on my mind that I can’t do because I don’t know how to use a sewing machine. I just hope my sister will be patient enough to teach me.

I was blog hopping ang I saw this post on how to come up with your porn star name. I know there’s an application in Facebook that can generate it for you but this other method is really funny. It says to use the name of your pet as your first name and the street where you live your surname. My pornstar name is…

Macho Beaterio

Bwahahahaha! What’s yours?

I’m a quitter!!! This is what I mean…

Quitter

Yes, I’m going to quit smoking starting today.

I started smoking when I was in college and the habit stuck and got worse until after I graduated. I stopped for more then three years starting 2004 but got back to the habit early last year because I felt kinda depressed and so emotionally unstable. Then I stopped again July last year as a, sort of, sacrifice for my niece who underwent surgery and started smoking again after a couple of months.

Now, I’m going to quit again, hopefully for good. Wish me luck!!!

One of the changes that I planned starting this year is to pay more attention to my looks and how I carry myself… in short, to doll up! Haha! Mind you, I’m not doing this for anyone but myself! :)

So, my twitter friends and I went gaga over E.L.F. cosmetics. Who wouldn’t with cosmetics and accessories for only US$1 each? Anyways, I just want to share with you the items that I snagged. In case you’re wondering, E.L.F. stands for eyes, lips, face.

For my eyes:

Eyes
Waterproof Eyeliner Pen in Ash & Coffee | Wet Gloss Lash & Brow Clear Mascara
Duo Eye Shadow Cream in Butter Pecan | Mechanical Eyelash Curler

For my lips:

Lips
Luscious Liquid Lipstick in Cherry Tart & Maple Sugar

For my face:

Face
All Over Color Stick in Toasted | Natural Radiance Blusher in Bronzed
Clarifying Pressed Powder in Tone 2 | Shine Eraser
Tone Correcting Concealer in Light

So, waht do you think? I’m a little clueless when it comes to make-ups and I’m not even sure if the colors I picked would match my skin tone. It’s a bit complicated actually because I stay mostly indoors so my face color is a little fair but I love going on trips and this make my face tanned. Oh well, I could always pass these to my sister or my cousin if it wouldn’t work on my face.

… my morning hair. Bwahahaha!

Well, it’s not always this crazy. Usually it’s just a little crazy. Today’s an exception because I forgot I put wax on it yesterday, trying to experiment with styles. And my hair is naturally wavy. Oh well, excuses excuses.

I look hideous! A hideous siopao! Hahaha!

Jan 7

New year, new look… I had a haircut today! Yay! Well, not exactly new look because my previous hairstyle is almost the same as the new one except that this time the back is a bit longer and shaggier, I think. Plus, my hairdresser taught me how to style it by using wax. I’m really not used to putting stuff on my hair so we’ll see how it goes. I think the last time I messed up with my hair was when I was still in grade school using hair sprays. Haha! So… tadah! Here’s the new me…

What do you think? Yeah, my picture is small because I really don’t like taking photos of myself… I’m shy! Bwahaha! Looking closely at my photo, I think my nose looks big, doesn’t it? Haha! And yeah I gained weight that’s why my face looks like a siopao again. Sigh.
